The Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC Mizoram) was established on October 3, 2008, under the provisions of Article 243K & 243ZA of the Constitution of India. Our mission is to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections to the Village Councils and the Aizawl Municipal Council, ensuring the democratic rights of the people of Mizoram are upheld with the highest standards of integrity.

Our leadership is committed to maintaining the highest standards of electoral integrity and efficiency:

Milestones and Achievements
Since its inception, the Mizoram State Election Commission has achieved numerous milestones, continually striving to improve the electoral process:
First General Election (2009):
- Conducted for Village Councils in Aizawl, Lunglei, Serchhip, Champhai, Mamit, and Kolasib Districts.
- Date of Poll: February 24, 2009.
- Number of Voters: 533,134.
- Voter Turnout: 73.92%.
- Number of Village Councils: 555.
- Number of Seats: 2071.
Mid-Term and By-Elections (2010):
- Organized for 7 newly created and 2 dissolved Village Councils.
- Date of Poll: April 7, 2010.
- Number of Voters: 6211.
- Number of Village Councils: 9.
- Voter Turnout: 73.29%.
Innovations in Electoral Practices
The SEC Mizoram is committed to implementing innovative electoral practices to enhance transparency and efficiency:
- Model Code of Conduct: Ensures free and fair elections by regulating the behavior of political parties and candidates.
- Common Ballot Paper and Single Ballot Box: Simplifies the voting process and reduces the possibility of errors.
- Election Observers: Appointed to monitor the election process and ensure adherence to electoral norms.
- EVM and Voter Slip with Photograph (VSP): First-time use in Mizoram to increase voter confidence and reduce fraud.
